A variety of "Homeschool" in Japan

In Japan, homeschooling has no clear definition or system, so interpretations and information published on the Web vary widely. Due to differences in interpretation and purpose, the purpose of how "homeschool" is explained and what it guides varies from site to site and article to article.

Get the information you need from each site by understanding "how it is interpreted" and "what its philosophy is."

《Homeschool/ Unschooling》

I think that Mr. Haruto Yoshii was the first person in Japan (since 1987) to practice with the concept of "homeschooling" that originated in the United States. His description of home school is very detailed and will be very helpful in understanding the concept and practice of Homeschool.

Mr. Yoshii states that "homeschooling can be paraphrased as homeschool" and explains that homeschooling is extremely liberal. The Yoshii family's homeschooling practices are very close to unschooling, and many of the descriptions carefully enhance our understanding of unschooling.

(Reference: 2015 Q & A )

Homeschooling Center Kokage has started a Facebook page since November 2014. By gathering and organizing information from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives from a family perspective, we hope to help each family create a rich and original homeschool experience.
Our family has been unschooling since 2007.

《Home-based Education / Home Education》

A special issue of "Alternative Learning" was published in the summer of 2007 by the Friends of Natural Child Care. The association provides information from an alternative perspective on children's health and life, looking after children, and learning environments. The association provides information from alternative perspectives on children's health, life, and the environment in which children learn. This new perspective has created an opportunity for mothers and fathers to rethink their very lives. Even today, there are families who think deeply not only about the educational field, but also about all the environments that surround children.

《Home Education》

It used to be called refusal to go to school. Associations of parents with children who have difficulty going to school have been established in many places. Free School Shure was started in 1985 as a place for out-of-school children to stay, learn, and socialize. Reflecting social and personal circumstances that make it difficult for them to live far away from home or to go outside, it proposes a home education for them.

In 1993, recognizing the need for such support activities, the "Home Shure" program was started. There is a "Cyber Shure" that parents and children who do not have a free school in their neighborhood or who choose to study at home instead of attending anywhere else, participate in the program via the Internet.

In 2000, Shure became a NPO, and continues to push for changes in school education from outside the school system.

《Homeschooling》

The NPO Homeschool Association of Japan (HoSA) was established in 2000 to support and raise awareness of homeschooling. The event introduced the practice of homeschooling in the United States. Reports from many members in Japan were shared, providing great encouragement for each family to establish their own homeschooling style.
In 2010, a new president took office. There was no significant activity since then, but we welcomed a new board member in 2017 and redesigned our website in 2018.

It appears that we will continue to promote a place and support for homeschooling families who use the materials and curriculum, connecting them with members to provide learning through a variety of channels. We will offer a place and method of learning in a variety of styles for the types of children who do not fit the traditional schooling teaching methods.

Feelosopher's Path Japan (established in 2014), a non-profit organization, provides various types of support for homeschooling families with the keyword "gifted" by offering suggestions for curriculum creation and providing useful tools to guide learning.

"In 1977, it started with a gathering of home schoolers from several families. The main activity is to support home schoolers (home editors) and alternative schools.

It should be noted that this is a completely non-governmental organization, and the maintenance costs of the activities are due to volunteer activities by members who do not depend on a specific foundation, etc., and other voluntary donations inside and outside the members. ..
This is because it is intended not to receive ideological intervention from the outside. -UK Home Education As Wise (quoted from AHSIC page)
